Frontpage: Lesson 1 - Setting the Site
To
use FrontPage's dynamic elements (such as extensions), you will need to
have a web server installed. Although you can use FrontPage 2000 without
such a server, certain features will not be available. One convenient
server is Microsoft's Personal Web Server (PWS): for information on setting
up this or other servers, see chapter three of the Web Production for Writers and Journalists book.
 To
create a site using FrontPage, go to File, New, Web. This creates a folder
(including sub directories for images and pages) in the root folder from
which the server is activated (for example, C:\Internet\wwwroot\). FrontPage
displays a number of templates which you can use to create a web site,
but in this instance select Empty Web and click OK.
The
typical interface in FrontPage consists of a Views panel on the left hand
side, from which you can access common views (site, page, hyperlinks etc.),
a folder
list and then a tabbed page view which displays design mode, the HTML
editor and a preview of your designs.
